JP, This post is so beautiful! I only learned about meadowsweet a few years ago, as I'd never heard of it or seen it growing here in the US upper midwest. So I grew some from seed, and they were so challenging to germinate! But I've managed to plant a few of them, and last year they bloomed. I'm so grateful to grow them and to explore their culinary potential.

But alas, I've just discovered that the deer have eaten all of my flower buds this year. Sigh, I hope there's still time for them to rebloom as this once happened surprisingly when they ate my sunflowers. But damn, I'm so sad about this. Normally the deer leave my herb garden alone, so this is my last unprotected garden bed. I may have to move them now, ugh.

Have you ever seen or grown the pink variety? I've just learned about this one. I'm so excited to have read your wonderful post about this wonderful plant! Thanks so much for sharing. 😊

Lovely evocative writing, Jp. Love your way of seeing the scattering of meadowsweet and other herbs across cottage floors as ‘In a way, it was the house opening to the fragrance and the flavour of the field’

Also, interested to note possible connection of meadowsweet to Aspirin …..
